You Can Use A Digital Voucher – A RABS Digital Voucher June 16, 2021

The RABS App & Digital Background Voucher has been Approved for use by Union Member Background Talent

After nearly a century of paper vouchers, productions and the union have agreed to terms of use of digital background vouchers. The change arrives as an efficiency and security solution as well as a safety necessity in the midst of the pandemic. RABS, as a digital voucher a service provider to production, is required to adhere to performer protections.

Paper Vouchers Are Available – background can request a paper voucher.

Digital Voucher Notice – background will be notified at the time of hiring of the use of digital vouchers. This is handled by the Background Casting company.

Union signatory productions across the United States – from Hawaii to Connecticut and Rhode Island – have chosen to use the RABS App & Digital Background Voucher with the union background talent. Their experiences have been largely positive. The experiences of the background performers have also been largely positive.

Unions in Canada Approve

Both ACTRA (Toronto) and UBCP (British Columbia) have authorized use of the RABS App & Digital Background Voucher. The RABS CEO, Josh Weinberg, spent an afternoon discussing Digital Vouchers with ACTRA President, David Gale, and a a panel of ACTRA Background Members.

Productions across the United States and Canada are experiencing the benefits of RABS. New shows generally have a learning curve and so our team has increased our support system.

Update to the article** as of September 30th, 2021, digital vouchers are the most prevalent form of managing background performer payments. The change has been both welcomed and appreciated by crews and talent.
